I've always loved the night sky, and I do enjoy looking up throughout the year and seeing the zodiac float along in their predictable places. I was born under the constellation Pisces. I don't believe in astrology, but I do think there is cosmic significance to the markers of our birth and our time... just that only God knows what those are.
And so the constellations are special to me. All together, they form a pattern and a rhythm of nature that--much like the seasons of harvest and sleep--is a joy to watch and participate in. It inspires feelings of mystery and awes in me. And you don't have to believe in astrology to enjoy the myths and stories behind the constellations, created with such creativity and yearning.
So I set out to honor those stories and the patterns of nature in cyanotype.
I made the series a part of my show, Solar Powered Drawings at Nelson Fine Art in downtown Johnson City. The pieces definitely looked swanky all framed and hangin gon the wall.
Here they are, close-up and in person.
On each print, the stars of the constellations are embroidered together using a shiny white floss. Together, they make quite a family. (You can now order prints of my entire zodiac collection through my shop at Society6!)
